Conclusion of the Jain Ashwin Navapada Oli on Purnima; Siddhachakra mahapujan
The Ashwina Navapada Oli concludes on Ashwin Purnima, the ninth day of the Oli that began on Shukla Saptami. The final day is dedicated to Tapa, the ninth pada of the Siddhachakra — austerity as the fire that burns away karma. Having kept Ayambil for nine days and meditated each day on one pada — Arihant, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyaya, Sadhu, Darshan, Gyan, Charitra and Tapa — devotees gather in derasars and upashrayas for the Siddhachakra mahapujan, the concluding worship of the yantra, and for the completion of the Shripal Raso, the story of King Shripal and Mayna Sundari whose faith in the Navapada restored Shripal's health and fortune. Many Shwetambara Jains observe the Oli twice a year for four and a half years, completing nine Olis in all, and those finishing their ninth Oli hold an udyapan. The fast is broken the following morning with parna. The Oli teaches that the path to liberation lies in reverence for the perfected souls and in the cultivation of right faith, knowledge, conduct and austerity.
Final Ayambil of the Oli; parna the next morning after navkarsi.
