Sankashti Chaturthi in Margashirsha dedicated to Ganadhipa form of Ganesha
Ganadhipa Sankashti Chaturthi is the Sankashti of Margashirsha Krishna Paksha (Purnimanta; Kartika Krishna in the Amanta calendar), when Lord Ganesha is worshipped in his form as Ganadhipa, the leader of the ganas, Shiva's hosts. Sankashti, 'deliverance from difficulties', falls on the Chaturthi after every full moon; each month's Sankashti has its own form of Ganesha and its own vrat katha. Ganadhipa is the lord who commands all beings and forces, and worshipping him is believed to give leadership, success, the removal of obstacles, and victory over troubles. Devotees fast from sunrise and worship Ganesha in the evening with durva grass, red flowers, modak and a lamp, read the vrat katha, and wait for the moon to rise; the fast is broken only after offering arghya to the moon, since Chaturthi's moon is sacred to Ganesha on Sankashti. Keeping Sankashti every month, and especially when it falls on a Tuesday (Angaraki), is believed to fulfil wishes and remove all obstacles.
Fruit, milk and non-grain foods through the day; break after moon arghya.
