Ekadashi in Shravan Krishna Paksha — fasting on Kamika Ekadashi pleases Lord Vishnu during Chaturmas.
Kamika Ekadashi falls on the Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Shravan and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Shridhara form. The Brahma Vaivarta Purana records Krishna describing this vrat to Yudhishthira: the merit of observing it is said to equal that of bathing in all the sacred rivers and performing the great sacrifices, and it is held to free the observer even from the sin of unintentional killing. Its particular power is attributed to the offering of tulsi — the Purana states that a single tulsi leaf offered on Kamika Ekadashi pleases Vishnu more than gold or jewels. Falling in Shravan, when Vishnu is said to enter his four-month sleep, it is one of the most widely kept Ekadashis of the year.
Rice is strictly forbidden on Ekadashi. The fast begins from sunset on Dashami and ends with the parana on Dwadashi. Many keep a night vigil.
